Hibbing grad drives at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

A Hibbing grad was part of the Dunwoody Doughboys that competed in the Shell Eco-Marathon Americas 2025.

Lily Lantz spent time in Indianapolis this past week and weekend with the Dunwoody Doughboys.

The team participated in the Shell Eco-Marathon Americas 2025 competition. They built an eco-friendly vehicle, and drove it at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the home of the Indy 500.

They came in 6th out of 15 in their category.

Lantz was the driver for the team, and described the car for us. “It’s on bike tires, and it’s got three wheels. It’s got kind of an aerodynamic shell. And it’s fun to drive. We only go about 20-30 miles per hour,” she said.

She graduated from Hibbing in 2024, and loves cars.

And for helping out other teams, the Dunwoody students earned the Spirit of Shell Eco-Marathon Award, which comes with a $3000 prize.
