Saturday the touring fundraiser, Hot Rods for Hot Wheels, held their annual fundraiser.
The event started out as a thank you to Gary New Duluth Police and Fire teams after founder Eric Waller was revived after an accident.
They event is focused on building connections between Northland communities and their police departments and fire departments.
The event started early with a moment of silence for fallen veterans, something Waller wishes to incorporate more of in the future. Then the tour of the hot rods began shortly after.
The fundraiser collects hot wheels to be given to police and fire teams. In 2021 the fundraiser raised 11,145 cars. And this year around 200 people showed up for the initial event.
Waller hopes to expand the fundraiser to other parts in the Northern Midwest saying, “I would like to expand to outer regions looking to get into Brainerd next year, possibly Grand Rapids and Two Harbors. Even this year we are going to do some delivery cruises. And of course getting down to the cities and just everywhere.”
