Hovde wins Wisconsin GOP primary for Senate, will challenge Baldwin in November

Unofficial results in Tuesday’s Wisconsin primary election show voters have chosen Eric Hovde to represent the GOP against incumbent Democrat Senator Tammy Baldwin in November. The Associated Press called the race at 8:20 p.m. on August 13.

Additional election results can be found here.

Hovde was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin and describes himself as the “classic entrepreneur” and has often highlighted his philanthropic work.

“Since I started this campaign my focus has been to defeat do-nothing Tammy Baldwin and restore the American Dream for people in Wisconsin and across the country,” said Hovde. “Tammy Baldwin has been in Washington for twenty-five years and things have only gotten worse. It’s time for change. I will always put the people of Wisconsin first by working tirelessly to lower costs, secure the southern border, and fix our broken healthcare system”

Sen. Tammy Baldwin ran unopposed in the primary and will represent Democrats in the general election.

Baldwin has served as a US Senator since 2013. Prior to that, she was a U.S. Representative from 1999 to 2013. Baldwin was Wisconsin’s first woman to serve in the U.S. Senate and the first openly gay member of the U.S. Senate.

“In the Senate, Senator Baldwin is committed to working across party lines to strengthen the essential pillars of economic security for working families: investments in education and workforce readiness, building a strong Made in Wisconsin manufacturing and agriculture economy, quality health care for all Americans, and protecting the retirement security of today’s seniors and future generations,” explained a release from Baldwin’s campaign.

Voters will choose between Baldwin and Hovde to represent Wisconsin on the November 5 election.
