Hunger Bowl Twin Ports is a food and financial fundraiser with support from local insurance agencies in the Northland. The insurance agencies from Twin Ports, Two Harbors, and Cloquet are working to help Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank. The local insurance agencies are invested in the well-being of the communities they serve. They will provide their locations as collection centers for non-perishable food and financial donations through March 9th, 2023.
George Weller, the owner of Zenith Glass in Duluth and helped with coordinating the Hunger Bowl talked about the event. “We started this last year. March is the month that food banks need the most help. So we developed the Hunger Bowl in association with local insurance agencies to raise food and financial donations for Second Harvest, Northern Lakes, Food Bank.” Weller said. “We’ve got bowlers all over the twin ports participating. Today, 100% of their entry fee is also supporting Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank. Last year we raised $64,000 in food and financial donations. This year we’re up to $78,000 and counting, not counting the proceeds from today.”
However, if you were unable to attend the tournament, Weller said there are other ways you can help give your support. “You can check Second Harvest, Northern Lakes Food Bank. They have a calendar where you can see all of their fundraising events. At our website, Zenith Auto Glass. There is a link to make a donation as well. We’ll take food donations right up until next week when second Harvest picks it all up from our location.” Weller said. “I’m just overwhelmed by the amount of support that was received by local insurance agencies. It’s so gratifying to be a part of this and make such a difference in our community when our community really needs it the most.”
The Hunger Bowl Twin Ports fundraiser bowling tournament includes a competitive 3-person team bowling tournament. The tournament had cash prizes for the top three teams, and recreational bowling. There was also a Bags Tournament and raffles for some great items!
