Ice falling from the Aerial Lift Bridge
Tuesday’s storm built up a significant amount of ice around the Northland, including the Aerial Lift Bridge in Duluth. Now, all that ice is starting to come down.
The City of Duluth has temporarily closed the pedestrian sidewalks on the Harbor side of the Lift Bridge, as ice is actively falling from the upper sections. That is, of course, a safety hazard.
The lake side, or east sidewalk is still open, but anyone crossing the bridge should be cautious and know that ice could start falling on that side, as well.
The City says the Public Works and Utilities Department will continue monitoring the situation, along with Aerial Lift Bridge Operations staff.
