One person dead after going through ice in Superior

Update as of February 28: The Superior Fire Department reports that a deceased individual was recovered from the water near Kimballs Bay shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27. The body was recovered by divers from the Combined Dive Team. The identity of the deceased individual has not been released by authorities at this time.
Original Story: The Superior Fire Department has confirmed that an ice rescue was underway in the Kimballs Bay area on Thursday evening. Authorities got a call around 3pm Thursday that a UTV went through the ice on the St. Louis River.
Superior Fire was able to get one person out of the water. But one person remained missing. WDIO is waiting on confirmation regarding the incident.
The Superior Fire, Police, and Douglas County Sheriff’s combined dive team in on scene.
The Fire Department is being assisted on scene by the Superior Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s office, St. Louis County Rescue Squad and Mayo Clinic ambulance.
The Superior Fire Department would like to remind citizens that the ice is not safe due to our recent
warm weather, and they are asking you to please stay off the ice.
