Imagine Downtown shows off work on 5-year plan
The community got a chance to check out and give feedback to the now halfway done 5-year plan put together by Imagine Downtown on Thursday February 6th.
The plan calls for a total revamp of Duluth’s Downtown area.
Major concerns addressed by their plan include residential housing, public safety, economic development, and public space activation. To get some of these big goals moving, they’re using programs, policies and projects.
A big part of their plan is the “neighborhood-ification” of downtown Duluth.
“The term ‘neighborhood-ification’ has three major pieces,” explained Jay Renkens from MIG. “One is, what makes a neighborhood is the fact that it has a strong residential component, so it means getting more housing downtown. To do that we need neighborhood services and amenities like grocery stores and daycares. Lastly, you want things that are really local of this place, building on the history and culture of Duluth but more specifically downtown.”
