Itasca County Sheriff’s Office warns about Publishers Clearing House scam

The Itasca County Sheriff’s Office received reports of Publishers Clearing House scams on Wednesday August 28th. Publishers Clearing House is a legitimate organization, but scammers are impersonating the company.

The Itasca County Sheriff’s Office listed these five ways to know it’s a scam:

  • If you are required to wire or pay any amount of money to claim a prize, it is a Publishers Clearing House scam.
  • If you’re asked to load up a Green Dot MoneyPak or other money transfer card, in exchange for claiming your prize, it is a Publishers Clearing House scam.
  • If someone tries to contact you in advance regarding a prize delivery, it is a Publishers Clearing House scam.
  • If someone calls you on the telephone claiming to be from Publishers Clearing House and says you have won, it is a Publishers Clearing House scam.
  • If someone claiming to be from Publisher’s Clearing House tries to send you a friend request on Facebook, it is a Publishers Clearing House scam.
