Jill Underly reelected as WI State Superintendent of Public Instruction

Wisconsin voters have reelected Dr. Jill Underly as State Superintendent of Public Instruction for a second term. AP called the race at 10:05 p.m., with Underly beating her opponent Brittany Kinser
Since 1999, Dr. Underly has worked in all facets of public education. She’s worked as an elementary school principal, a middle and high school teacher, and a school district superintendent.
Dr. Underly’s career accomplishments also include working as a university academic advisor and administrator. She even worked as the assistant director at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, and is the department’s current Director when she was voted back in 2021.
Dr. Underly is also currently serves as the only elected member of the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents. She worked with the legislature to help pass a new bipartisan literacy law helping young kids’ improve their reading abilities. The also hired more reading coaches, and shifts students to phonics-based reading instruction for kindergarteners through third grade.
Jill Underly currently lives in rural Hollandale with her husband and two children, along with too many animals to count.
In the February 18 primary, Underly received 38% of the vote, and Brittany Kinser received 35%. A third candidate, Jeff Wright, received 27% of the vote.
