Justin Liles: Additional light snow possible tonight
Gusty winds and periods of light snow have been the weather story today. A Winter Weather Advisory for snow is in effect for inland Lake County and all of Cook County until midnight. Additional snow is likely early this evening mainly north of US-2 in Minnesota and east of US-53 in northwest Wisconsin. Be prepared for rapid visibility reductions to 1/4 mile and could lead to snow squalls. Lake effect will linger into Wednesday morning for the south shore.
Temperatures will cool off a touch Wednesday before mild westerly winds take over and create another warmer than average day on Thursday. This surge of warmth will likely last through the weekend.
We are currently monitoring the track of a Colorado low set to possibly impact the Northland this weekend. Some models are hinting at more of a northerly track than yesterday’s model output. If this track continues, we could be seeing a decent weather maker this weekend. Currently, there isn’t enough evidence to support it tracking over the Northland and staying farther south. Another clipper will move through by Sunday and bring in more snowfall. Colder air returns next week.
