March 18th: Snow looks to stay southeast

Snow looks to stay southeast

Low pressure will move into the area tonight. A wintry mix of rain/snow arrives in the Northland tonight, with precipitation chances increasing into Wednesday. This system looks to continue to push farther to the southeast. It may completely miss our area. Ashland, Iron, Gogebic, and Sawyer Counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory from 7 am to 10 pm Wednesday. However, do not be surprised if this advisory gets lifted sooner.

For the moment these counties will be on the northern fringe of this system. High pressure to our north will likely be responsible for pushing this low farther south and east. It’s more likely these counties will see more rain than snow too. Winds will pick up and if snow does fall poor visibilities are possible. Temperatures will warm close to 50° or more by Friday. More snow is possible to our south again Sunday into Monday. Snow heading into the work week looks to stay mostly north, impacting Monday morning travel.
