An area of low pressure will work its way across the International Border tonight. Showers and thunderstorms more likely move into the Northland after midnight and push eastwards across the area through mid-late morning. This initial round of storms is not expected to be severe. It looks like we may get a break during the day Wednesday with some clearing and sunshine. This could help prime the atmosphere for some afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
The current severe outlook is highlighting areas along and south of a line from Leech Lake to the Twin Ports in Minnesota, and most of northwestern Wisconsin aside from the Bayfield Peninsula and northern Ashland/Iron Counties with a marginal severe weather risk for Wednesday afternoon and evening. The main severe weather threats would be large hail to the size of quarters and damaging wind gusts to 60 mph in the strongest storms, along with locally heavy rainfall where thunderstorms repeatedly move overhead.
Rain looks to linger on Thursday and diminish as the day wears on. Heat and humidity look to return this weekend and into next week a high pressure returning.
