Justin Liles: Rain returns tonight and Friday

May 23rd: Rain returns tonight

Rain returns tonight

The main story for the holiday weekend will be the act of daytime sunshine leading to the development of late afternoon and evening thunderstorm. This evening, we are going to see some widespread isolated showers and thunderstorms. The potential of some stronger storms will be west toward the Brainerd areas where hail and damaging winds are possible.

Heading into Friday an area of low pressure arrives from the Rockies. Friday will again be another wet day with brisk winds off the lake. Most of the region will pick up and additions .25” to .50” with higher amounts along the Northshore. This will likely increase the high river and stream levels and additional flooding headlines are possible.

Temperatures will be much cooler than Thursday as most of the region will see highs in the 50s. This pattern of sun and then PM rain continues through the weekend and spills over into Memorial Day. Fair weather skies and warmth returns be the middle of next week. If traveling this weekend drive safely and have a great holiday weekend.
