December 28th: Early AM Fog, rain, and snow

Early AM Fog, rain, and snow

Temperatures are going to be above normal for the remainder of the year and into the new year. I know many Northlanders do love when the temperatures are warmer than average, but let’s not forget what the lack of snow and ice does for those who’s livelihoods depend on it. The other issue with this warmer air moving over our snowpack is the return of thick fog and the potential for freezing fog. The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory until 10 AM Saturday for southern St. Louis and Carlton Counties. This mean visibility of one quarter mile or less is likely.

The lowest visibility will be found along I-35 between Duluth and Esko, and areas on the hillside in and around Duluth. Rain works back into the Northland tonight. Total rainfall between 0.5 to 1 inches is possible in northwest Wisconsin, along the Interstate 35 corridor in far eastern Minnesota and into the Arrowhead.

Saturday morning could produce some light snow around the region too. Temperatures cool off next week with mainly dry conditions except some lake-effect snow chances mid to late week along the South Shore.
