Justin Liles: Snow, slick roads, and cold
Conditions tonight will remain cloudy and continue to get cooler. Cooler air means light snow is possible tonight with more along the snow belt of the south shore. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 5 inches expected east of Ironwood and Bessemer. All areas around Ironwood and Bessemer will likely see 1-3” of snow. More snow is likely along the south shore Thursday.
Thursday will be the big snow maker of the week. A clipper system will slide through Minnesota and Wisconsin Thursday. Road conditions will likely be slick all day. Most of the heavier snow will fall south of the Twin Ports. East central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin will likely be in the 6-9” range. If doing your holiday travel on Thursday, please know the roads will be slick. Due to winds being off the lake, the Twin Ports will likely see 1-3”. East winds should help generate some lake enhancement near the head of the lake. If you are up along the Iron Range, you’re looking at 3-6” of snow.
Colder air will follow the snow for the remainder of the week. Sunshine along with rising temperatures return this weekend.
