Justin Liles: Some improvements on Grandma’s Marathon

June 21st: Cooler Saturday

Cooler Saturday

The start to the weekend will be quite wet with rain chances persisting into Sunday. The worst of it arrives this evening and into Saturday with multiple rounds of rain leading to an elevated water level issues in northwest Wisconsin. A front lifting northward will be responsible for the showers we see to the south this evening. Easter winds will begin to get rather gusty off Lake Superior.

Another piece of energy arrives later tonight. This energy has moved farther south. This means the full race won’t be as wet as it looked earlier this week. The rain looks to intensify as the race goes on.

With the upcoming system, our southern tier of counties could see up to 0.5-1.5″ of rain through the weekend. It is these same areas that are marked for a 10-40% chance of excessive rainfall extending into Saturday Morning. With the system this weekend, there’s a chance for thunderstorms as well. The best chance of seeing strong/severe storms will be across northwest Wisconsin tomorrow. Sunshine returns on Sunday but there will be periodic chances for more showers/storms through the week with the best chance at being precipitation free occurring Wednesday with high pressure in place.
