Over the bridge in Superior, the Gitchee Gumme Brewfest opened its doors for visitors to find their favorite flavor for the 27th year on Saturday.
The event was held at Wessman Arena on the University of Wisconsin Superior campus, and hosted over 35 local breweries, all bringing in a wide variety of different beverages for taste-testing – with money from ticket and merchandise sales going to support the City of Superior.
“We bring in over 35 different craft beer, wine, seltzer and cider vendors. That each bring four or five different samples of their products, And the proceeds for the event today go to different like education organizations, grants, scholarships and just other charitable opportunities throughout the Superior community,” said Alex Kozitza, one of the organizers for the Gitchee Gumee Brewfest.
Gitchee Gumee Brewfest is created by the Superior Jaycees, an organization with the purpose of training the leaders of tomorrow.
Kozitza says the event is a kickoff for spring and summer events.
“People know about it. It’s been around for a long time. It’s a good opportunity to come see friends, try out different beverages from all kinds of different vendors and companies. Just all around, it’s a good time,” said Kozitza.
