Kitchen fire causes thousands in damage to Duluth apartment

On the evening of February 16, the Duluth Fire Department responded to a call at Midtowne Manor apartments at 2011 W Second Street. There, they found a kitchen fire in a single unit.
According to the report, the building’s fire sprinkler system contained 75% of the fire, and crews worked to completely extinguish the rest.
Two people were in the apartment when the fire broke out, but were able to get out of the building. No injuries were reported.
Fire damage was contained to the apartment it started in, but DFD says that nearby units did sustain water damage. The fire is estimated to have caused about $10,000 in damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal’s office, but is said not to be suspicious.
Duluth Fire Department was assisted by the DPD, HRA, Mayo Ambulance, as well as the Duluth Transit Authority, who sent a bus for apartment residents to use as a temporary shelter as crews worked to put out the fire.
