Lake County man sentenced to 30 years for child sexual abuse

A Lake County man was sentenced Friday to 30 years in prison for Criminal Sexual Conduct in the First Degree. According to the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office, 45-year-old Michael Brian Bailey of Two Harbors was sentenced at a hearing in Duluth on March 28.

According to St. Louis County Attorney Kim Maki, Bailey was convicted by a jury on four counts of criminal sexual conduct following a week-long trial in February. According to the report, Bailey was convicted in 2020 after pleading guilty to a charge of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the First Degree. The victim in the current case was a sibling of the child from the 2020 conviction. The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office says the crimes were committed in a similar time frame, between 2015 and 2019.

The Honorable Eric L. Hylden presided over the case.

Judge Hylden denied a motion by Bailey for a mitigated sentence, and according to the report entered sentences of 180 months, 360 months and 140 months, to be served concurrently. After his release, Bailey will be under supervised release and must register as a predatory offender for the remainder of his life.

According to the report, he also faces additional charges of criminal sexual conduct and perjury as well as probation violation in connection with his 2020 conviction.
