The Lake Superior Zoo is proud to announce a new addition. Pip, a nearly 1-year-old red panda, has joined the family.

She’s currently in the quarantine phase, to make sure she’s fully healthy before joining Zoozee. You can see her in about a month.

Pip was one of two babies born to their mother, and was so small she was called pipsqueak. That’s how she got her name.

Lizzy Larson, Director of Animal Care Management, shared, “Red pandas are part of the species survival plan, and geneticists figure out genes of all the red pandas in human care in zoos. They figure out which pairs would be the best to live together. Eventually we would probably be getting in a male, that we could breed with these two females. And further the mission of the species survival plan.”

You could see Pip on Friday if you attend the Toast to Tails event.
