Lea Zmurko: Showers stay to the south

August 5: Clouds and Showers stick around

It will be cool and cloudy across northern MN, but further south across the Northland storms will pass overhead with over an inch of rain expected.

The daypart will remain cloudy and cool for most, but with some areas seeing more rainfall by tonight.

Rain will be moving across the southern portion of the Northland today. It will start as light rain in the morning for Cass, Crow Wing, and Aitkin County. Then there is a heightened chance for moderate to heavy rainfall to move across north central Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin by the end of the day.

About 0.5 – 1.0 inch of rain is expected by tomorrow morning. Issues of flooding from heavy rainfall should remain at a low risk as soil moisture levels are rather low across the highlighted area. The wet conditions will clear out tonight and Tuesday will be mostly sunny.

Winds will be off the lake and coming from the east so waves and winds by the shoreline are favorable for rip currents. There’s a Beach Hazard Statement issued in the Twin Ports area for Monday.

Temperatures for today will remain in the low 70s and upper 60s. This is a cool start, but looking ahead temperatures will be staying in the mid-70s for the rest of the week. There will be more chances for some periodic showers and thunderstorms the rest of the week across the Iron Range and in Northern Wisconsin.
