Lea Zmurko: Wednesday is still sunny, but a lingering haze remains

July 10: A pleasant week continues

Overall, a sunny day with some late afternoon showers will quickly move across the Iron Range and northwest Wisconsin. A breeze off the lake will make the day comfortable by the water.

The sunny conditions persist for the middle of the week. Temperatures will range from the low 70s along the water to the low 80 further inland. The lake breeze will provide some air circulation and keep the shores cooler. Some fog in parts of northeastern Wisconsin will stick through the morning but eventually will lift as the sun ascends.

As the afternoon progresses, there will be sufficient instability for some isolated showers and storms this afternoon. No severe weather is expected, but the storms are projected to build some strength. The storms will be short lived along the Iron Range and stay west of the Twin Ports and into the inland portions of northwestern Wisconsin. All storms will diminish by the evening.

The sky will have a milky look due to the smoke from the Canadian wildfires. The Air Quality Index is still forecasting moderate levels as the high concentration of smoke will not be making it down to the surface. Yet, at this level there are risks for sensitive populations. The smoggy conditions should be clearing as me move overnight, and high pressure pushes over the Northland changing the winds.

Temperatures will continue to warm as we approach the weekend and Heat Advisories may be needed. It Is important to remain safe as these temperatures climb. Avoid staying out in the sun at the peak times of the day, find shade, wear sunscreen, and stay hydrated to avoid symptoms of heat illnesses
