Learning about each other and the world at LSC cultural fair
Students and faculty got a chance share different cultural foods, music, and traditions from all over the globe at Lake Superior College’s third annual cultural fair on Tuesday March 25th.
Around 14 different countries and cultures were had a table, where students and faculty could showcase anything they wanted from their culture.
“Some of them are international students. Some of them are migrant students. Some of them are people who are adopted but are still strongly connected with the place they were born and just want to share where they’re from,” said event coordinator Sarah Lyons. “I think a lot of these students spend their time at Lake Superior College learning about how we do things in American culture, American food, American music and all those things. This is a chance for them to give back and share with their classmates and their teachers a little bit about their culture and their country.”
Beyond learning about different countries and cultures, it was also an opportunity to learn more about eachother.
“For a lot of our students and our staff, this is one of their favorite days of the year,” said Lyons. “It’s a time that they really get to know each other in a different way and talk about different things. Not their math or their English class, right? But who they are, what their family does, how they do things, what they eat and how their country celebrates their Independence Day.”
