Little Fork River in Cook may finally have crested, could take days for water to recede

Floodwaters starting to recede in Cook after covering blocks of town

A look at the flooding in Cook from the Little Fork River.

The floodwaters continued to rise in Cook, but it appears things have crested.

After Tuesday’s torrential rains, the Little Fork River just overflowed through town.

The National Weather Service said they expected the crest to happen Thursday, but their experts said it could take through the weekend for the waters to recede.

Meteorologist Joe Moore told us that it’s not a large river, but it’s in a large wetland area. Those wetlands absorbed the rain during the storm, and then released it.

“There is a lot of water everywhere, like a river traffic jam,” he explained.

The county has had people checking on residents to make sure they’re OK through this. The St. Louis County Rescue Squad has been wonderful, according to residents.
