Local wildlife photographer Jim Brandenburg dies at age 79

Local and renowned wildlife photographer Jim Brandenburg has passed away at the age of 79.
The announcement came from his Facebook page, stating that Brandenburg passed away peacefully in his Medina, Minnesota residence on Friday, April 4th, surrounded by family.
“Jim was being treated for anaplastic thyroid carcinoma the past 7 months, with additional complications from pneumonia this year,” said the Facebook post.
Brandenburg was preceded in death by his son, Anthony, who passed away on February 24th, 2025. He is survived by his wife Judy, daughter Heidi, and grandchildren Olivia, Liam, and Lindsey.
Brandenburg’s obituary and information on his celebration of Life is to come at a later time.
