Man in wheelchair hit by vehicle by Burning Tree Plaza

A male in a wheelchair was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Burning Tree Road and Maple Grove Road in Duluth on Tuesday.

A male in a wheelchair was struck by a vehicle at approximately 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Burning Tree Road and Maple Grove Road in Duluth on Tuesday, September 10 according to the Duluth Police Department. The man in the wheelchair was transported to local hospital for minor injuries.

“Initial investigation shows a vehicle was attempting to make a left turn from Burning Tree Road onto Maple Grove when it struck a male in the wheelchair who was crossing in the crosswalk going southbound,” explained Mattie Hjelseth, Public Information Officer with the Duluth Police Department. “It is still being investigated whether there was a walking signal at the moment of impact.”

Hjelseth explained that, due to the current uncertainty regarding a walking signal, no citation was given to the vehicle’s driver. There was also no sign of impairment according to authorities.

The Duluth Police Department, Duluth Fire Department, and Mayo Ambulances responded to the scene.
