Man survives plane crash in Sawyer County

An Arizona man survived a plane crash Sunday in Sawyer County, Wisconsin.

Authorities responded to the Weigor Road and Brisko Road intersection in the Town of Radisson at 11:59 a.m.

They say a single-engine Piper Malibu experienced engine trouble and lost power. The operator and lone-occupant, a 58 year-old man from Tucson, Arizona, was flying to the Hayward, Wisconsin area.

With no airports in the area, the pilot opted to make an emergency landing in farm field just east of Weigor Rd.

The Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office says the pilot was not hurt. The plane sustained extensive damage in the crash.

The FAA is investigating.
