Mark your calendars for the Lady Justice event on Friday in Virginia
Three judges will share their journey to the bench at an upcoming event in Virginia.
It’s called Lady Justice: Celebrating Gender Equality Within Minnesota Judicial Leadership.
The judges include the Honorable Michelle Anderson, from the 6th Judicial District, along with the Honorable Diane Bratvold and Honorable Susan Segal, from the Minnesota Court of Appeals.
Judge Bratvold shared, “In the legal system, it is true that there are always winners and losers. The judges are at the center of that, as the decision makers with the juries. And it’s really important in that process that the right thing happen, and justice happens. But also that everyone in that room feels heard and understood. So it’s important that the court be visible in a place where everyone can join and see themselves as part of the process, if they choose to.”
Judge Anderson is the first woman to have chambers at the Virginia courthouse. She is glad to share more about her story.
“I know from my own experience that I wouldn’t necessarily be in the position that I’m in, but for those who were willing to share their own pathways and experiences. I feel like it’s my responsibility and my way of giving back, to share my pathway so others might be inspired to pursue a career in law or in the justice system,” Anderson said.
It’s free and open to the public on Friday at 4pm at Minnesota North Virginia campus.
