Minnesota House votes against bill to ban transgender athletes from school sports

The Minnesota House of Representatives voted on a bill, called The Preserving Girls Sports Act, that would ban transgender athletes from playing in girl’s and women’s sports teams in Minnesota schools on Monday March 3rd.
The bill failed to pass with only 67 of the 68 votes needed to pass. All Republican representatives voted in favor of the bill, and all DFL representatives voted against the bill.
According to Hubbard sister station KSTP: both supporters and opponents of the bill rallied at the state Capitol ahead of the planned vote on the legislation.
This all comes after President Donald Trump’s executive order establishing the same rule nationwide.
Despite that, the Minnesota State High School League decided to stick to its anti-discrimination statute, which allows trans girls to continue to play in female sports. The U.S. Attorney General said the state could risk losing federal money.
