Missing 77-year-old located in Lake County
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has reported that a missing hiker was successfully located after an extensive search.
The 77-year-old man was reported missing Thursday morning, July 27, by his daughter. The vehicle of the missing party was located at the Blackstone Hiking Trailhead in Superior National Forest.
The Morse-Fall Lake Rescue was called by the responding deputy to assist in the initial search. After the first search of the trail system was unsuccessful, Search and Rescue teams from both St. Louis and Lake Counties were called in to assist.
An air search by a Forest Service Beaver seaplane was able to locate the missing hiker, after the pilot and spotter saw him waving his arms and were able to alert ground crews to his location.
Authorities say the man was found severely dehydrated, and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
