MnDOT District 1 preps for construction season
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) district one announced their plans for the 2025 construction season on Thursday April 3rd.
MnDOT’s district one has 19 projects on the books for this year costing 114 million dollars.
Projects planned include nine bridges, twenty-one miles of resurfacing, two roundabouts and nine culvert replacements. Two of those bridges are from Fifth Avenue to Mesaba.
“On I-35 we have two projects, one in Duluth from Fifth Avenue to Mesaba,” said Andrew Deming the District one construction engineer. “We’re going to rehab two of our bridges. That project is going to start up in April or May, weather dependent, and it will have some significant impacts to traffic.”
There are also two large building projects that are on the schedule too, the completion of the MnDOT truck station in Grand Marais and the Virginia headquarters building.
As these projects ramp up, the Minnesota State Patrol is reminding everyone of the Ted Foss move over law, which requires drivers to move to the furthest lane when passing construction sites, and if you can’t move over, slow down.
“As construction season kicks off, we’re going to start seeing a lot of orange barrels, construction zones, congested traffic, and we’d like you to plan ahead moving forward for that,” said Minnesota State Patrol Captain Pete Goman. “Whether you’re on your way to work, whether you’re going to the cabin or just traveling through the area, please pan ahead and be prepared for those congested areas.”
