Moose Lake’s Correctional Facility seeking more staff recruitment
As early as February this year, there are more efforts with recruiting more correctional officers at Moose Lake’s Correctional Facility. The Minnesota Correctional Facility in Moose Lake is a medium custody facility with over 1,000 inmates.
At the moment there’s nearly 400 members of staff working at the facility, but there’s over 200 correctional officers. The current staff are able to meet the demands of day-to-day operations. However, Warden Kristin Rish says they can use more help, and not just with more corrections officers.
“I always frame our facility up like a mini city. We have every position here that you really can think of,” Rish said. “From a librarian to a teacher to doctors to nurses to maintenance staff, behavioral health, and of course to our officers in our security positions.”
Also behavioral health for all their staff members and incarcerated people are a high priority. Members of the correctional facility have access to critical incident stress management and a peer recovery specialist.
“As a medium custody facility, we have just over 1,000 incarcerated folks here. We have about 396 staff in total, we are always looking to recruit great officers,” Rish said. “There’s a number of tools our security staff have available to them to ensure not only their safety, but the IP safety as well. Alarms, cameras, radios, phones, all kinds of devices and technologies that we can use to enhance safety here.”
