Motorcyclist dies after crash with deer

A motorcyclist died after a crash with a deer in the township of Hawthorne on Sunday morning.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s office responded around 10:45 a.m. on Highway B near Old 11 Road.

Despite lifesaving measures, the motorcycle operator was pronounced dead at the scene. Their name has not been released yet, pending family notification.

Authorities say the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet, and they believe speed was a factor.
