Victim identified in fatal motorcycle crash east of Hibbing

Authorities responded to a fatal motorcycle accident on Highway 5 near the intersection of Herman Road in Cherry Township, on April 12. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office has now identified the victim as 46-year-old Shawn Harold Hage of Chisholm.

According to the report, an eyewitness saw a motorcyclist heading north on Highway 5, when it failed to make a turn and ended up crossing the centerline and going into a steep ditch filled with water.

Hage was ejected from his motorcycle after entering the ditch.

Citizens at the scene attempted lifesaving efforts, however, the rider was later pronounced dead.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office speed and alcohol were considered to be factors in the accident. They also stated that Hage was not wearing a helmet.

The crash is currently under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.
