Murder charges filed in connection with deaths of two people in Babbitt

Prosecutors have filed two murder charges against a man for allegedly killing two people in Babbitt last weekend.

Roger Beldo, 54, had been living with the victims, Clifford and Christine Johnson.

The criminal complaint said Beldo told authorities he used a hammer and tire iron.

This all came to light after Beldo was in the hospital in Duluth, and said he had done, “bad things.”

As for a motive, the complaint said Beldo thought the victims wanted to take his Section 8 voucher and he also thought they were taking his food stamps.

Court records show bail was set at $1 million dollars.
