Northwestern High School celebrates new artificial turf with Essentia Health

Northwestern High School students and faculty joined Essentia Health leadership in celebrating the new artificial turf at Northwestern Highschool just before their football season opener on Friday August 23rd.

The new turf comes in part from a unique agreement between Northwestern Highschool and Essentia Health. Essentia Health agreed to contribute $20,000 every year for 10 years, $200,00 total, to replace the turf.

The new turf will make for a safer environment for the student athletes who use the field. According to school leaders artificial turf fields should be replaced every 10 years, but the old field was 16 years old.

“We very much appreciate the partnership we have with Essentia Health and their donation to our turf project,” said Brian Smith, principal and athletic director for Northwestern High School. “Without their donation, this wouldn’t have been possible. Having a new, safe playing surface is a significant benefit to our student-athletes and we can’t thank Essentia enough for their generous donation to the replacement of the turf at our athletic complex and ongoing partnership we have with them with our fitness center.”
