Northwood Children’s Services will continue ‘If the Dress Fits’
For nearly nine years, ‘If the Dress Fits’ has been there to help teens throughout the Northland. Back in January, the non-profit announced they were looking for another organization to continue the program, offering affordable formal wear. Now Northwood Children’s Services will continue ‘If the Dress Fits’ legacy.
After this summer, Northwood Children’s Services will be helping teens find a beautiful and affordable dress. Whether they need it for a prom, homecoming, or winter formal dance. Laura Gubelmann, is Northwood Children’s Services west campus Regional Director. She says hundreds of their kids have relied on ‘If the Dress Fits’ over the past decade.
“When we heard they were going to be closing their doors, we wanted to keep it going. We want to make sure everyone still got those same opportunities that we’ve been lucky enough to have,” Gubelmann said. “So many of our students take advantage with their generosity giving dresses to kids throughout the Northland.”
According to Gubelmann, she says Northwood Children’s Services is already making space for the incoming 500 dresses.
“We’re taking in the dresses early this summer, probably in June. In the early fall, we’ll be hosting events here at our West Campus to get those dresses out to the students that need them and want them,” Gubelmann said. “We’re also lucky enough to be able to continue the different dress drop-off locations that If the Dress Fit originally has had with Bella Rose Boutique and we also have a couple locations from Northwoods that are going to be able to accept donations.”
Some of the businesses that offered dress drop-off locations include Bella Rose Boutique. Gubelmann says the local boutique will continue coordinating with as a drop-off for dresses moving forward with Northwood Children’s Services leading the ‘If the Dress Fits’ program.
Over the next couple of months, Northwood Children’s Services will be creating a page on their website for any new updates related to ‘If the Dress Fits’ program. We also have another story about what you should know about men’s fashion that you can read here.
