One dead following hit-and-run incident in Moose Lake
On March 21st, just after 2:00p.m., the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a pedestrian laying in a ditch that may have been struck by a vehicle.
Carlton County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Moose Lake Police Chief responded to the scene near Jon Brown Drive and Highway 73 and found the injured pedestrian. Moose Lake Fire and Essentia Health medical staff also arrived on scene to begin life-saving measures. After attempts to resuscitate the pedestrian were unsuccessful, the victim died at the scene of the incident. A short time later, the driver suspected of hitting the pedestrian was located and detained while further investigation was completed. The suspect was arrested for Criminal Vehicular Homicide and transported to the Carlton County Jail. It is believed by authorities that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash. The name of the pedestrian who died is being withheld until the investigation is complete.
The Minnesota State Patrol assisted in the reconstruction of the crash scene while Moose Lake Fire personnel and Minnesota Department of Transportation staff provided traffic control as investigators processed the scene.
