One person killed in a two-vehicle accident in Hermantown

At around 2:21pm, Hermantown authorities were dispatched to a two vehicle car accident that killed one person near Lavaque Bypass near Ugstad Road.

Police say the deceased victim’s next of kin has been notified. Her identity was revealed to be 46-year-old Penny Jean Polaski. She was the passenger in one of the vehicles.

The Hermantown Police Department immediately began investigating the accident, as the Minnesota State Patrol started an accident reconstruction. Preliminary findings indicate that a Kia Rio was driving south on Lavaque Bypass when it crossed over the centerline and crashed into a Toyota Highlander traveling north.

The driver of the Kia Rio was transported to the hospital with multiple fractures. The driver of the Toyota Highlander was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
