Opening Day for Chester Bowl on Saturday
Grab your skis! The Chester Bowl Improvement Club will open their ski and snowboard program for the season on Saturday. Located at 1801 E Skyline Parkway, Chester Bowl sits on 117 acres in Duluth. The Alpine Hill has a double chair lift with a 175 foot drop. It provides a family-friendly atmosphere.
Executive Director Dave Schaeffer shared his excitement in a release saying, “although we have not had much natural snow, our team has been hard at work using these colder days to make snow, and we have excellent coverage on our main runs for opening day.”
Chester Bowl began in 1980 and was established as a State of Minnesota non-profit 501(c)(3) in 1982 to support programming for thousands of users in the City of Duluth. In 2008, Chester Bowl took over the daily operations. Today, the City of Duluth is responsible for maintenance of the grounds and facilities, but all programming staff are employed by Chester Bowl.
Shaeffer said he is very grateful for the “snowmaking team of City staff and Chester Bowl volunteers and staff.”
The hill will be open from 11:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and again from 11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Hours vary so check out the Chester Bowl website.
The Chester Bowl Improvement Club continues to work on raising money for the “Growing Up Chester” Capital Campaign to expand and renovate the Chalet. The campaign began in March of 2023 and has raised approximately $3,250,000. The Chester Bowl Improvement Club is a not-for-profit organization that facilitates and promotes sustainable quality programs for all Chester Bowl Park users in a healthy and safe environment.
