Person of interest identified in Wisconsin death investigation

On Sunday night at approximately 10:09 pm, the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department to assist in locating a missing juvenile from Juneau County.

The missing juvenile was picked up and last seen with Virgil Thew. Thew, 47, was known to reside in the city of New Lisbon, which is around 80 miles northwest of Madison. The Juneau County Sheriff’s Office began the initial investigation into the juvenile’s whereabouts.

At approximately 7:40 am, on Monday morning, the New Lisbon Police Department was added to the investigation into the whereabouts of the missing juvenile. Throughout the day, the New Lisbon Police Department was made aware of a second missing juvenile that was from the city of New Lisbon.

Wisconsin Probation and Parole, Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Mauston Police Department, Necedah Police Department, and Wisconsin State Patrol investigated throughout the day with the cooperation of the juvenile’s parents.

At approximately 4:29 pm on Monday, two juveniles and one adult were found deceased inside a residence in the 300 block of West Bridge Street in the city of New Lisbon. The Wisconsin State Crime Lab, Juneau County Detectives, and investigative staff from Monroe County Sheriff’s Department processed the residence.

Police are still looking for Virgil G. Thew and have named him as the person of interest in the investigation. Thew is a white male, 5’10”, and approximately 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored down coat, blue jeans, and a hat.

Thew is currently wanted by Wisconsin Probation and Parole. New Lisbon Police Department Chief Kyle Walker says Thew should be considered armed and dangerous.

“If seen, do not confront or approach him and contact 911,” says Walker.
