Police notify people staying in encampment outside city hall that they must leave

An update on Tuesday about the encampment at Priley Circle in Duluth.

Police said in a statement that the city’s Life Safety Team, in light of escalating public health and safety concerns, have given notice to those at the encampment that they must vacate and remove their belongings.

The deadline to leave is seven days from now.

The Life Safety Team will continue to coordinate with Community Outreach Programs to assist those during the transition period.

Police said they have responded to 138 calls to Priley Circle in July, including an explosion, and overdose, and additional behavioral health calls.

This comes after a month long debate about changes to public safety ordinances, including camping on public property.

People started camping there nearly three months ago.
