Preliminary hearing held in 16-year-old’s homicide trial

A preliminary hearing Wednesday for 16-year-old Daniel Wilber, who is accused of killing his brother in December 2024. The Ashland teen is charged with first-degree murder as an adult.
Court documents say the victim shot himself in the woods in the Town of Keystone, but was still alive. The accused teen then allegedly fired multiple shots.
Witnesses say they saw the two boys going into the woods, later hearing around eight gunshots.
Autopsy results ruled the victim’s death a homicide, with the cause of death listed as multiple gunshot wounds.
The Defense has received an offer that is under consideration, and is not asking for a preliminary trial at this time.
Another hearing is set for April 9.
