John Awsumb has again been recognized for his work with students in Proctor.

He’s earned the Middle School Principal of the Year award from the Minnesota Association of Secondary Schools Principals.

And get this. He found out through a surprise announcement in the auditorium on Wednesday.

“They all cheered I went to the front. It was very emotional. Just to look out and see the kids who I just adore and I’ve known for a long time. It was just something I’ll never forget,” he shared.

He does his best to inspire people to want to be in the building, both students and staff.

“We have the best jobs in the world,” he said.

He’ll get the award officially in a few weeks. And be in the running of the national title.

Awsumb has earned honors like this before. He was named Minnesota’s National Outstanding Assistant Principal in 2019. And he was the Principal of the Year for the NE division of the MASSP last year.
