Protesters gather ahead of President’s Speech
Protesters gathered in downtown Duluth on March 4, ahead of President Trump’s first address to congress of his second term.
For about 90 minutes, demonstrators gathered on all four corners of Lake Avenue and Superior Street during peak rush hour for downtown. Many held signs expressing frustration with President Trump, his administration, and Elon Musk. Others declared support for Ukraine.
“I’m very concerned about the face of the United States. It isn’t the face of democracy and it’s one of hate and division and I would like it to be one of love and caring about all of people, about equality, not division.” said Protester Gay Trachsel.
When asked what she thought might help restore a sense of unity to the country, Trachsel said she believes people need to get more engaged.
“I think coming together, coming together in action and then speaking out. Call your congresspeople. Work in agencies that are doing something that’s good and don’t be afraid.”
The March 4 protest followed several others held in recent weeks around the Northland, including one held at the same spot in early February.
