Reminder to report flood damage

St. Louis County is reminding property owners affected by the June 18 storms to submit damage reports.

Property owners can submit a flood damage report form or call the Assessor’s Department 218-726-2304 to have a staff member help. You’re encourage to include photos of the damage.

The Assessors Department started touring flood damaged homes and businesses, including nearly 200 in the Cook area.

In a press release, the County said, “Depending on the extent of the damage to the buildings, there is the potential for some property tax relief, such as a credit or future abatement. Damage to driveways, landscaping, culverts and personal property such as vehicles and docks unfortunately would not qualify for relief.”

If you’ve already completed a form with the city, you’ll need to fill out another for the county for the Assessor to visit.

The county asks you to submit your information as they are touring properties in a way that geographically makes sense. They want to plan as soon as possible.

The county says don’t wait for an inspection from the assessor before beginning clean up and repair. Photographic evidence will work.
