The Richard I. Bong Memorial Airport in Superior hosted its fourth annual open house on Saturday. The event was hosted by the airport organizations with the hope of brining the community to the site to learn more about aviation.

The event included food for its guests, airplane rides, tours of the on-site museum, historical memorabilia, and more. Many types of airplanes were on display for the event, including three from World War II. Visitors could take an up-close look at the planes, and some could event sit inside.

One of the organizations participating in the event was the Lake Superior Commemorative Airforce, a nonprofit organization stationed at the Bong airport.

“We just hope that people learn about the airport and the businesses that are here today. They have a lot of different things they can offer the community, whether you want to volunteer or learn about aviation – whether you are youth or adult,” said Brian Janssen, officer of the Lake Superior Commemorative Air Force.

Some volunteers at the event also donned military uniforms from different eras, the uniforms and military gear was loaned for the event. There was also a showing of classic cars later in the day. The Blue Water Big Band performed, giving the visitors a chance to dance along with their comrades.
