Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center celebrates the discovery of Richard Bong’s P-38 fighter plane, ‘Marge’

The Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center celebrated finding Richard Bong’s P-38 fighter plane, “Marge”, Thursday May 30th. The celebration included a livestream with the Papua New Guinea team that discovered “Marge”.

“When we first started, we didn’t think there was a whole lot of a chance that we would actually find anything,” said John Gidley Executive Director of the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center. “When they found the site and how much was there, we were just flabbergasted. It’s amazing to us. It’s super exciting.”

The aircraft was located in the jungles of Madang Province, Papua New Guinea on May 17. Pacific Wrecks confirmed the plane’s unique serial number.
