Road construction to close lanes on I-35 in Carlton County

Motorists traveling on I-35 in Carlton County need to be aware of construction beginning on Monday, July 17, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT). Crews will be constructing median crossovers on I-35 near the Atkinson Bridge. This section of I-35 will be reduced to one lane in each direction with temporary closures of the passing lane. The Atkinson Bridge crosses Carlton County Road 61.

MnDOT says the closures will be removed for weekend traffic peaks. The project is expected to be completed in early August.

The median crossovers will be used in 2024 and 2025 during a project which consists of bridge re-deck and repair and pavement mill and overlay. The expected total cost of the project is $4.15 million.
