Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute Adaptive Sports and Recreation offers a wide diversity of recreational and competitive sports programs for youth and adults in northeastern Minnesota, northwestern Wisconsin, and the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
They partner with people of all ages and abilities to follow their goals to live, work, learn and play by providing adaptive sports and recreation programs. These activities are adapted to improve participants’ independence, improve self-confidence and encourage an active, vigorous lifestyle. Rock-climbing is one of their activities, and a very special young man by the name of Thor attends every week.
“He’s super determined and independent. And he was born 12 weeks early, which has caused some special needs, I suppose. But overall, he’s a big sunshine in our life,” says his mother, Sara Johnston.
Accessibility is such an important thing in any sport but climbing especially. And at Courage Kenny when you are there, the goal is to have fun and enjoy. Maybe it’s getting to the top, or maybe it’s just getting on the wall and trying it out. It’s a really wonderful feeling having recreational activities available for all. That is what Courage Kenny sets out to do.
